Got Books?

While browsing blogs, I found an old book meme post at The Little Professor.

Some have called this a Great Books list. That statement is misleading to the extent that "Great Book" generally indicates being in the Western/Eastern Canon; since it takes a good 100 years to be considered old enough for the canon, and some books on the list were published as recently as 20 years ago, this isn't a Great Books list in the strictest sense.

The point is to take every book on the list below and italicize, CAPS, or bold those titles that you've read.

I would include The Brothers Kamarazov & Anna Karenina.

And I know I'm probably the only one in the world who preferred Cat's Cradle to Slaughterhouse 5.

Ooh Ooh. Those are great ones. They would actually make a formal Great Books list.

There are a few on the list that I would take off.

But, there are many that I'd add to the list, such as Aristotle, Plato...

Yes, there really isn't a Great Books list per se... there are too many great books to list.

Agreed.

I don't like what I've heard of him as a person, but Bloom provides a pretty good list in his book concerning the Western Canon...

Haven't seen his list in a long time, but Bloom's "What to read & why." is rather heavy on the Shakespeare.

You've got to read Vonnegut's Slaughter-House Five.
